Save systems explained: which kind suits you
Save points, checkpoints, save anywhere and runs. What each one means for your evenings.

1Save points
A fixed place where you save, like Undertale's stars or Eastward's fridges. They create a rhythm: push on to the next one, then stop. Good for planned sessions.
2Checkpoints and autosave
The game saves for you, often at area entrances. Failure costs little. Great when you might be interrupted.
3Save anywhere
You can stop at any moment, as in CrossCode. The most flexible, and ideal for busy weeks.
4Run-based games
Roguelites like Dead Cells are built around runs that end when you die. Permanent unlocks soften the loss. Best when you have a free half hour.
5Match it to your week
If your evenings are short or unpredictable, pick checkpoint or save-anywhere games. Our "minutes to a good stop" figure helps.
